Etsy's Prohibited Items Policy lists things that can't be sold on Etsy, even where they are legal locally. Listings that break it are removed, and repeated violations can lead to suspension. You can appeal a removal you believe was a mistake.
Etsy is a marketplace for handmade items, vintage items and craft supplies. Within that, some categories are not allowed at all, however they are made or presented. The rules exist for legal, safety and ethical reasons, and they apply even when an item is legal where you live.
Alcohol, tobacco products, drugs and items marketed for drug use (such as pipes or bongs sold for that purpose) are not allowed.
Firearms, ammunition and many weapon parts and accessories are not allowed, along with some other weapons such as brass knuckles. Check the policy before listing knives, tools or anything that could be treated as a weapon.
Items containing regulated hazardous materials, such as certain chemicals or explosive components, are not allowed.
Items that have been recalled for safety reasons can't be sold.
Etsy does not allow items that promote, support or glorify hatred or violence against protected groups, including symbols associated with hate movements.
Human remains (with narrow exceptions such as hair and teeth) and products made from protected animal species are not allowed.
Some categories sit close to the line: hunting and outdoor gear, vintage items that contain animal materials, and CBD products (allowed only in some circumstances). Read the current policy for the specific item before you list it.
Etsy removes the listing and usually tells you why. If you believe the removal was a mistake, you can appeal through Etsy. Repeated violations can lead to your shop being suspended.
